One of the most important things about a flight simulator is not how it looks, but it how actually simulates whatever it is that you are doing. As a huge flight simulation fan, I was super excited to try out this new demo of Pre-Flight RC. As one of the new kids on the flight sim block, it’s always nice to see what else they can bring to the table and how exciting/unique they can make their products.
Therefore, it was really interesting to see just how good the much vaunted physics and rendering engine was going to be within this simulator – was it as good as it was supposed to be, or was it a bit of a damp squib?
Living Up to The Name
One thing that I noticed right away was just how incredibly easy it was to actually use – even for a flight simulation beginner I think this would be incredibly quick and simple to adapt to.
There’s not exactly a whole lot going on in terms of difficult additions or changes to the usual formula of a flight simulator, but it brings all of the bells and whistles to the party. Here are just some of the key features that you would be expecting to see when you launch this demo;
Outstanding graphical quality – nothing is taken to chance here with Pre-Flight, and whether it’s the beautiful way that shadows are rendered to the way that smoke juts out of the exhaust of the aircraft you are flying you will be truly impressed by this. It takes graphical representation seriously, and with the new lighting system too it really does make Pre-Flight look better than any other option out there
The new liquid surface textures mean that the water will react and bob around just as it would in real-life – it will no longer look like a large blue carpet. Water realism is vital for a flight simulator as you’ll spend plenty of time flying over water, so having the best graphics possible is very important
Photorealism is taken to a new level here – it will start to build up the way, meaning that everything won’t look flat and you’ll be able to collide and/or fly around these photorealistic images. This adds a whole new element of class and quality to the design
As you can see, some of the most important changes that have been here are included within the graphics. It’s rendering style and quality is extremely fast and reactive, and makes sure that you won’t be looking at large blank textures waiting for them too load for too long. Add in the fact that this flies like an absolute dream – regardless of the plane that you decide to take in to the sky – and you’ll find that Pre-Flight might be your new simulator of choice.
It's classy looking, it runs very smoothly and it gives you an incredible level of detail that other flight simulators simply don’t have.
