1. Just found this recently but for those such as myself who are curious, Sonic Dimensions is a PC Fan game created by Phantom-Radea. This game Plays similar to how Sonic Vs Darkeness, a fan game created by Nefaut1st plays in terms of it's mechanics and play style, but unlike sonic vs darkness which runs on the sol engine, it is stated that Sonic Dimensions runs on a modified version of the super ring engine, Essentially giving the game qualities and effects similar to how the sol engine works.

Place Sonic and his vehicles on the LEGO Toy Pad to join the action in the game. Activate Sonic’s Acrobat ability to swing off poles and avoid the Badniks, then use his famous grind rails move to make a quick escape. Collect your favorite LEGO DIMENSIONS characters and use them in-game together for a crazy mash-up multiverse.

In a world full of Sonic fan games, Sonic World does more than enough to stand out in a positive way. If you are a fan of the famous blue hedgehog then I am sure you will get a great deal out of this game. It has a ton of fan service in it and that for most Sonic fans will be what makes this so addictive.

The Fab 32!

As I write this Sonic World has 32 characters! I say as I write this because it is my understanding that they are not finished with this game yet and more are coming. What I really like is that this is a Sonic game and a Sonic game only. They have not tried to force in characters from other Sega franchises here.

The characters are awesome and as you would expect, Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Shadow and Amy are here, but so are others such as Cream, Vector, and characters from more recent games like Lost World and Sonic Boom. It is very, very impressive the number of characters that they have managed to include here.

Another thing that is awesome about the characters is that each one has their own abilities. This means that certain characters are required to get part certain sections on various levels.

Pick Your Team Of Three

Sonic World is interesting in that you pick a team of three. This may be ringing bells of Sonic Heroes, but it is not like that at all. Instead of having predetermined teams, you are free to pick whatever three characters you want. As you have the whole roster unlocked from the start, you are free to pick your dream team. What I like about this is that it is possible to pick just a team of your three favorite Sonic characters if you want. Or you can be a bit more strategic and pick characters whose abilities are going to allow you to get through the levels easier.

How Does It Play?

There is not an actual story that you play through in this game. Sonic World is just about getting through the different levels. The levels are all new and even ones that are based on classic Sonic levels have been made in a unique way for this game.

The gameplay is rather mixed. The controls take a long time to get used to and playing with a gamepad is way more hassle than it should be. Each character has three special moves and each special move needs its own dedicated button. It can make mapping a controller a bit of a nightmare so I would suggest just using the keyboard as there is a default layout for it.

I do not think that the controls are bad, they are kind of like Sonic Adventure if I had to compare them to a brand-new Sonic game. That is not a bad thing at all as I think that the two Sonic Adventure games are fantastic. Just know that there is a bit of a learning curve with the controls here.

As a huge Sonic fan, I have had a great deal of fun messing around with Sonic World. Clearly, the people behind this are huge Sonic fans and that shows thanks to the huge amount of fan service that the game has. While the controls are not perfect, there is so much content here in terms of characters, their abilities and the levels. That you will find yourself putting many hours into this. If they can fix the control issues, I would easily score this at 8 or higher!

Speaking generally, there’s a lot to enjoy about the real world. The sky might not always be blue because storm clouds roll in, but there’s something immensely peaceful and satisfying about listening and watching a rainstorm. Plus, on those days, I don’t mind being inside and playing a couple of good games. In essence, reality is great. Then, I play a game like LEGO Dimensions and realize that living in a world that can cross over with nearly all of my other favorite franchises (TV, video games, or otherwise) would be a lot more exciting than being contained in this reality. Fortunately, the game itself does quite well and you get a truly full experience even without getting to cross dimensions yourself. Its one of the few games out there that had a lot of potential and actually capitalized on it thanks to the combined efforts of LEGO as a whole and, of course, the developers.

Endless Possibilities

Its hard to find a franchise that hasn’t made deal with LEGO in one form. Anything from Minecraft to Harry Potter or even Star Wars have been featured as a set at some point (or their own games, too). This is one of the few games that gave the toys-to-life feature a chance and actually made something fun. Its not especially remarkable, or even the best part of Dimensions (though a lot of the sets are easily as well-made and fun to play with as non-Dimensions sets).

The best feature is the cross overs with other games and media that melds seamlessly with the style that LEGO has already popularized with a few other titles. I always loved the other LEGO games, though I always wished there were more of them to explore than just the Lego Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Batman series (though more were always being made). Dimensions was the perfect way for them to delve deeper into diversifying how LEGO sets could be approached, and I would say that was done successfully.

Lots of New Toys

Sonic

As with any toys-to-life title, there are bound to be a few hiccups that occur because of the way that games are meant to be played. I think that the overall playability is good with a low frequency of bugs (rarely scanning new levels in wasn’t working), and it functioned just fine. The main hiccup I’m referring to is that this will cost you a great deal of money going forward.

Bottom Line

While yes, you can play around in the worlds of Portal, The Goonies, or Scooby Doo, but that won’t be cheap going forward. If that’s not too much of an issue for you, there’s seriously nothing about this game I don’t love. It keeps the heart of all the old LEGO games while adding distinctive touches that, when all’s said and done, makes the extra price of other sets worth it most of the time.

Aside from spending some extra cash, all the levels, games, and style of LEGO Dimensions is great and well worth some exploration. Perfect for families or those looking for a casual gaming experience.

Pros:

Sonic Dimensions Pc
  • Tons of neat crossovers to explore
  • Physical sets are just as fun as in-game levels
  • Easily addictive

Cons:

  • Controls not as precise as usual, especially cars/vehicles
  • Lots of expenditures for new sets
  • Certain franchises have worlds that are bland (do research before buying specific sets!)
