Installation instructions

After downloading the homebrew browser files, insert your SD card into your computer and make a new folder called “apps” on the root of your SD card. This is where you will copy the homebrew browser files. After you have done this, insert your SD card into your Nintendo Wii and head on over to the homebrew channel. Once the homebrew channel has loaded up, you should see a new application. Click on this application to open the hombrew browser.

Note: If after you open the homebrew browser it says it cannot access the server, Insert your SD card back into your computer and go to the homebrew browser folder inside the ‘apps’ folder. The Wii Internet Channel previously required 500 Wii Points. Starting later in October 2009, Nintendo will be offering a NES title from Virtual Console worth 500 Wii Points to those Wii owners who have already spent 500 Wii Points on the Wii Internet Channel.

If you download the Internet Channel after 10 October 2007, several new features will be included. Please make sure to perform a Wii System update before you download the new version of the Internet Channel.

The Internet Channel features a web browser made by Opera Software, which allows users to surf the world wide web. This browser can be used to access web sites, perform web searches, etc. A broadband internet connection is required.

  • The Internet Channel supports http and https. It is not compatible with other types of protocols, such as ftp, mailto, etc.
  • USB keyboard support is only available for version 9.30. Visit the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel to obtain the latest version.
  • The Internet Channel is compatible with Flash, up to version 8. It is compatible with all earlier versions, but versions higher than 8 will not be compatible. There is currently no way to download and install higher versions of the Flash Player to the Wii console.
  • Access to the Internet Channel can be restricted through the Wii's Parental Controls. If the controls are enabled, a PIN must be entered before the Internet Channel can be accessed.
  • When entering website address, you do not need to type in 'http://'; however, websites that begin with 'https://' will need to be entered in full.
  • The Classic Controller, Nintendo GameCube Controller, and Nunchuk are not used with the Internet Channel. In addition, only one Wii Remote will work with the Internet Channel at a time.
  • Many types of video playback, such as QuickTime (.avi) and Windows Media Video (.wmv) are not compatible with the Opera Browser and will not play.
  • The Wii console supports cookies. You can delete cookies by deleting the Internet Channel's saved data from the system memory.
